A Dragon's Life

Somewhere in the sunshine
over the rainbow blue
lives a gingerbread dragon,
a horse and pony, or two.

Confection frosts her head
as white lace does a gown
beneath a circle of jewels,
sweet lemons and plums do crown.

Emeralds light her eyes,
ever-searching a forward course
as her ponies charge the field,
bright tears drain her force.

Strong wings and legs in rhythm
guide their cause with ease,
quiet to the task she's given,
solemn as a somber sea.

Somewhere in the sunshine
past a rainbow blue,
there breathes a tired dragon
whose promise to rest comes soon.
